About This Dog

The Overview

Marvin is a stunning, 100% authentic working-breed Beagle. He is a happy, social, and incredibly affectionate boy who loves being around people. However, as a working hound, his energy levels are "off the charts." We have two young children (aged 2 and 5), and we’ve come to the realization that Marvin’s "work-hard, play-hard" nature is simply too much for a home with very small children.

Personality & Behaviour

Wonderful with People: Marvin has a lovely temperament and has never shown a bit of aggression. He is perfectly safe and friendly with adults and children alike; he just doesn't realize his own size and strength when he’s excited!

The "Beagle" Brain: Marvin is highly intelligent but has typical hound "selective hearing." He listens well to his main handler but will test boundaries with others.

The Scent is King: He has zero recall. If he’s off-lead and catches a scent, he is on a mission. He must be kept on-lead or in a secure area.

House Manners: Marvin is still learning that human toys aren't dog toys and that the dinner table isn't a buffet. Because he is young and high-energy, he can be destructive if he hasn't had enough exercise.

What Marvin Needs

A "Dog-Savvy" Family: We aren't ruling out families with children, but they must be "dog-aware." Because Marvin is "in-your-face" and loves to steal snacks/toys, he would be best suited to a home with older, sturdier children who can handle a bouncy dog.

An Active Lifestyle: Marvin needs a "job." Whether that’s long hikes, scent-work games, or a large garden to zoom in, he needs a way to burn off his physical and mental steam.

Training Commitment: He’s a diamond in the rough. With a family who has the time and patience for consistent training (and perhaps a bit of "hound-proofing"), he will be an incredible companion.

Summary

Marvin is a "big personality" dog who is currently just too much for a household with toddlers. He isn't a "bad" dog—he’s just a high-performance dog living a low-gear life. He deserves a home where he can be the centre of attention and get the exercise his breed craves.

If you understand the quirks of the Beagle breed and are ready for a fun, energetic project, Marvin would love to meet you.

There is a rehoming fee of £250 to ensure a committed home.

Beagle Puppy Buying Checklist

We highly recommend every buyer reads through the below advice when purchasing or rehoming a Beagle.

  • View the animal in the place it was born and raised - check for genuine home environments if buying privately, or the quality of the breeders set-up if applicable.
  • If viewing a puppy under 8 weeks, by law they MUST be seen with their mum.
  • Make sure the animal's old enough to be rehomed. 8 weeks should be the earliest a puppy can be rehomed.
  • By law, all dogs MUST be microchipped
  • Review and verify any documents, such as KC registration paperwork where applicable

Avoid Potential Scams

There are a number of red flags to look out for when purchasing a new puppy:

  • Seller demands a deposit without allowing you to see the dog first - never send any money before meeting the animal in person
  • Seller is reluctant to send you additional photos or videos
  • Seller offers to deliver the dog/puppy without you viewing it first
  • Seller asks to meet in a mutual location
  • Seller uses fake or stolen photos from the internet. Always carry out a "Google image search".
  • Seller asks to immediately switch to communication off the Beagle Owners website
  • Seller uses a different phone number to the one listed on the website
  • Seller asks you to send money to a bank account with a different name to the person you have been communicating with
  • The dog/puppy is advertised significantly cheaper than similar listings

Although we have a number of automated systems in place to prevent scam and fraudulant adverts, these can never be 100% accurate and its important to use caution when buying online. We do not accept any responsibility for transactions between our users, especially when our safe buying advice is not followed.
